"The
Electric Tickle" is a brand new 5 song
cd-ep from New Jersey's Lenola. A split release with the Philadelphia
label File-13,
this ep serves as a taster for their upcoming full-length "Treat
Me To Some Life" due out on File-13 early in 2001. This ep's
first song "Slipping Under the Shadows" is pulled from the new
album, and was also recently released as a one-sided 7" on the UK label
Earworm.
The four b-sides include; the brand new song "Driving Over To Your
House", recently re-recorded and drastically different versions
of 2 songs originally appearing on last year's acclaimed "My Invisible
Name" album, and closes with a cover of the Silver
Jews song "Inside The Golden Days of Missing You". After
3 full-lengths on their own Tappersize
label, 3 U.S. tours and countless singles, ep's, and appearances
on compilations, this cd-ep will tide over many folks eagerly anticipating
the upcoming Lenola full-length cd

LLayered
in giddy pop grooves, a sticky guitar wash, and familiar phrases and favorites,
Lenola's "Electric Tickle" EP (FT31.5) carves five scrupulous slabs
from the quartet's unceasing sonic catalog. Lenola has amassed a huge
discography distinctly marked by six year's of gradual coherence both
stylistically and in their home-recording fascination. Having leaped the
dense walls of My Bloody Valentine dissonance and spit out hefty
Polvo doses on their first two full-lengths, "The Electric Tickle"
further defines Lenola's effort toward quixotic song dynamics. Pulled
from the yet to be released "Treat
Me To Some Life" LP (FT32), the first track, "Slipping Under
the Shadows," has garnered praise as a one-sided 7" released earlier
this year on the UK's Earworm label. Following the gorgeous piano/acoustic
guitar minimalism of the new "Driving Over To Your House", are re-recorded
and drastically revised versions of "Black Eyes" and "Jet Row
(entitled "Small Shin Splints") from "My Invisible Name"
evoke the intensity of their live show (devoid of Lenola's elaborate light
show and costumes). The EP closes with a cover of Silver Jews' "Inside
the Golden Days of Missing You" and leaves the eminent spring release
to second-guesses and wet lips. File-13 |
