of cheese. other attractions include the Bong Recreation
Area and the Mars Cheese Castle. With Milwaukee comes an
unusually large number of churches and buildings with big clocks

- we arrive in town early, stop by our host Andrew's place, but he is
out. we hit Atomic Records, then the local park for late afternoon
frisbee and leisure. On the way back to Andrew's, the local college
radio station is talking up our show for that evening. Andrew and his
wife are extremely gracious, feeding us a delicious home-cooked vegan
feast. talk quickly turns to music, it turns out Andrew, like us, was
forever changed in his formative years by punk rock and skateboarding.
we bond about our mutual obsession with washington dc hardcore, and
andrew picks jay's brain for anecdotes of late 80's east-coast hardcore
nostalgia. we promise him we'll play our Rites Of Spring cover tonight.
We load into the cactus Club, and i begin DJ'ing on what is the
best jukebox on tour so far. Any jukebox with Black Flag next
to Hank Williams is fine with me. Everything is going along wonderfully
until we are suddenly informed we are to go on first (again). There
was a miscommunication between the other folks in Andy's band Lucia.
we thought we were playing second, so did they, etc. in the end it is
us that go on first, but andrew makes up for the mishap by introducing
us to Steel Reserve brew. 8.1%, yow! We get up and do a very
aggresive set, loose as gooses by this point. Lucia play a much calmer
set of spacey-pop, and then headliners Lullaby For The Working Class
bring on their strange americana-folk. Lots of members on the stage
with instruments including vibraphone, pedal steel, mandolin, violin,
acoustic guitars and other stuff. interesting and well done, just a
bit too mellow for that late night hour. we stay at Andrews, i break
in my newly purchased sleeping bag.
