sean - after an uneventful day of rest, we make it over to Go! Studios in chapel hill. this is the third and final time we are competing with a Luna show in town on the same night. its sure to put a dent in our turnout, but, this trip is nearing completion and the last few nights have kicked our ass pretty badly, so we are just looking forward to playing to some people. Tonight's headliner is Shannon Wright, whom we do not know much about. From the soundcheck we gather that she is performing solo on guitar and piano. after setting up we go and grab pizza, but not just any pizza. this happens to be the best pizza of tour, a return to the east coast style of pie making we've been deprived of for weeks. we stuff our faces and then sit in happy silence picking our teeth and holding our guts. me & scott record shop while dave & jay drink, we all eventually meet back at Go.

Alot of people are gathered in the small room by the time we go on, but it only takes a few minutes to get the vibe that the audience is here for Shannon Wright and we are simply inflicting audio-pain upon them. jay cuts down the chatter of the room by snapping "boy, i sure hope we aren't interrupting any important conversation" and then sprays the room with some malicious noise. our impression of the crowd is proved unfounded later as we sell a bunch of CD's and speak with some people who came to see us and enjoyed themselves greatly. Local indie-rock celebrity is amongst us tonight, and Dave is drunk enough to initiate conversation with most of them. I spend some time strolling around Chapel Hill, scott sticks around for Ms. Wright and later reports an amazing performance somewhere between Neutral Milk Hotel's Jeff Mangum and Tori Amos. the night is later punctuated by Dave suprising the hell out of all of us when he emerges from the motel bathroom beardless and grinning. we all jump to attention and sing the national anthem while saluting him in his clean-shaven glory.
