Lenola - tour entry 16 tuesday 11.16.99 Chico CA - Duffy's "pretty good vibrations"

Sean - awoke early and said our goodbyes, all reflecting upon a good weekend of general bonding and new friends made. After a grueling 9 hour haul which took us through some snow covered highlands of southern oregon we arrive in Chico, all of us thrilled to finally be in california. we arrive at Duffy's just in time to load in, set up, so some quick record shopping next door, have a beer then get up and play. nice to not have a ton of time to kill prior to playing.
We play in "medium-mode" tonight, not quiet, but not blazing. suprisingly good turnout and reception, a positive atmosphere that we savor after a lukewarm portland show. some action photos are snapped for the local paper as we play. Jay continues breaking strings on his favorite guitar every night, and this really begins to frazzle him tonight. we plan to have this looked into on our day off in san francisco. Headliners are Fireball Ministry, on Bongload records they are, home of early Beck stuff. They are doing the sludgy-retro-70's Black Sabbath stoner rock thing that CA has been churning out alot of lately. someone in the crowd requests a Meatloaf tune from the portly vocalist. ouch. Scott has really come into his own hawking Lenola merchandise both at shows and at local record stores we visit. dave and i prepped him on the basic sales pitch, he takes that and adds his own extroverted chatty-spin. Throw in the menacing cowboy hat and no one can resist. I walked into a portland record store yesterday and he had the clerks playing the CD in the store as he verbally buttered them up for the big sale. atta boy!!!
